The Storms River and Tsitsikamma area offers guests a wide variety of activities and attractions - from leisurely things to do to adrenaline pumping activities.

WOODCUTTERS JOURNEY
A specially designed off road vehicle in camouflaged green with a yellow canopy leads you to the resting spot of historic wagons that once travelled the forest. Guides take you along the elephant trail disclosing the mysteries of the trees that stand as natural pillars in the Tsitsikamma kingdom.

TSITSIKAMMA CANOPY TOURS
‘Me Tarzan, you Jane.’ Swing from the treetops across the forest canopy of the place named by the ancient San, Tsitsikamma (place of abundant water). The abundant water has birthed abundant South African wildlife.

BLACKWATER TUBING
Fancy a day of fun on the river? Tsitsikamma Blackwater Tubing offers an adventure of tubing, swimming, rock jumping and hiking through the Storms River Gorge. Tubing takes place in the Tsitsikamma National Park – an area of pristine beauty, sea views, rare birds and forested river banks.

STORMS RIVER SUSPENSION BRIDGE
The suspension bridge that hangs over the red-brown waters of the Storms River Mouth spans 77 metres and remains one of the most popular tourist attractions of the Tsitsikamma region of the Eastern Cape. Situated within the Tsitsikamma National Park, it was originally built in 1969, but has since been rebuilt by San-Parks to ensure its stability and safety. It hangs just seven metres above the churning waters of the river as it enters the foamy Indian Ocean.

FOURCADE TRAIL
Set aside two full days to complete the Fourcade Trail which is a circular route that is 24km long. The trail was opened in 1991 and departs from the depot next to the forest below Witelskop and since it is a circular route you will end up where you began.

STORMS RIVER HIKES & TRAILS
Ratel Trail or nature walk is a 4.2 km walk that will take you about an hour and a half to complete. The walk surrounds the famous Tsitsikamma Big Tree. Plaatbos Trail follows a route through high indigenous forests sThe most exciting is the yellow trail as it includes the Storms River Bridge and the picnic site (take swimming costumes).

BLOUKRANS BRIDGE BUNGEE JUMP
Situated along the Garden Route at the Tsitsikamma Forest Village Market, just 40km east of Plettenberg Bay along the N2 Highway you will find the highest single span arch bridge in the world. You can experience the thrill for yourself!

MARILYN’S 60’S DINER
Situated on the quaint, narrow main road of the Storms River Village, Marilyn’s 60’s Diner is a fuchsia-and-turquoise surprise to the senses. With wall-to-wall murals, paintings and famous photographs of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and a few other old-time greats, this American-style diner promises a memorable meal, snack or milkshake.

STORMS RIVER ARTS AND CRAFT CENTER
South Africa is home to a wealth of local talent, which is sometimes forgotten in exploring the “bigger, better” tourist attractions. The Storms River Centre Arts & Crafts may be tiny, but is certainly hard to miss for its brightly painted exterior and prime position on the main road of the Storms River Village in Tsitsikamma.

Because these routes offer some of the most beautiful scenery in the country you might want to do something a little easier, like the Orange Route, first time around, before tackling the more technical sections of the Black Route. These routes also function as family-friendly routes, which you can plan to include a stop at Storms River village coffee shop for coffee and pancake

SCUBA DIVE STORMS RIVER
Tsitsikamma National Park offers an underwater wonderland waiting to be explored by scuba or snorkel! The Storms River Mouth and Tsitsikamma National Park are a marine protected area filled with an abundance of colourful and inquisitive marine life.

DINE AT RAFTERS RESTAURANT
What began as an in house country cooking experience around a double sided log fire has evolved into an internationally renowned venue, which has been discussed as far afield as Machu Picchu in Peru and the top of Table Mountain in our own beloved Cape Town!

THE BIG TREE
With a name that doesn’t leave much to the imagination, The Big Tree is exactly what it claims to be. This giant Outeniqua Yellowwood (Podocarpus Falcatus) is a magnificent part of creation, being some 1 000 years old and towering at an impressive height of 36.6 metres. The largest known Outeniqua Yellowwoods reached 45 metres in height. The trunk has a circumference of nearly nine metres and the canopy boasts a spread of 33 metres.

THE VILLAGE PANTRY BILTONG SHOP
The road between Plettenberg Bay and Port Elizabeth is simply stunning; flanked by lush forests and rolling mountains.One of the highlights of this section of the Garden Route, though, is to stop at the Storms River Petroport and stock up on snacks and refreshments at The Village Pantry Biltong Shop.

TSITSIKAMMA WOLF SANCTUARY
If you loved White Fang, you will adore this unique sanctuary. Tsitsikamma Wolf Sanctuary is the only registered, non-profit centre in South Africa housing 80 beautiful wolves. The sanctuary was established in the year 2000 and has become home to the wolves who were previously pets and have no wild life experience.

TSITSIKAMMA HIKING TRAIL
It is no wonder that South Africa’s first officially accredited hiking trail is also one of its most beautiful. The two- to six-day Tsitsikamma Trail has been recognised for its natural beauty, safety, biodiversity, and superior management and was awarded a Green Flag Certificate. This means more than a qualification, though. It means that this is one of the best trails that winds its way through the Tsitsikamma, which is a spectacular forested area along the Garden Route.

HIKE THE OTTER TRAIL
The Otter Trail follows the magnificent Garden Route coastline from Storms River Mouth to Nature’s Valley in the Tsitsikamma National Park. The trail is 42,5 kms long and takes 4 to 5 days

TSITSIKAMMA FALLS
Tsitsikamma Falls Adventutre offers a range of activities including Waterfall Zipline Tours, Gravity Zone Abseil, wall climbing and Quad Bike Tours. The Waterfall Zipline Tours are between one and two hours long and the longest zipline is 211m long – all through breathtaking scenery.

TSITSIKAMMA BIRD WATCHING
Tsitsikamma, situated along the exquisite Garden Route, is a haven for birdlife. It is the ideal getaway for nature-lovers, particularly those that love looking out for some of the most beautiful avian species soaring above or nesting in the dense forests all around.

TSITSIKAMMA RESTAURANT
With the waves crashing just metres below and views of the Storms River Mouth and surrounding mountains, Tsitsikamma Restaurant has a winning formula in terms of its setting. This spacious eatery is flanked by the souvenir shop and the beach, which is usually teeming with young and old from all over the world. There is a large outdoor section for those wanting to smell the fresh sea air

BITOU ART GALLERY
Get down to the Bitou Art Gallery and peruse an extraordinary display of art created by local artists who also work from the studio. You can expect to see watercolour, ink, ceramics, acrylics, oils and photography pieces. Some of these marvelous pieces have even come into the possession of local and international collectors.

HOG HOLLOW HORSE TRAILS
The Tsitsikamma is an exquisite part of the Garden Route in South Africa. It is breath-taking in its natural splendour and its abundance in fauna and flora, and continues to be one of the most frequently visited and loved places in the Western Cape. One of the best ways to experience this beauty is on horseback.
